Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex: Redefining Political Communication in the Digital Age.
In the age of social media dominance, politicians are finding new and innovative ways to connect with their constituents. One such trailblazer is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman ever to serve in the United States Congress. As we discussed in class in "Discussion #11: Campaigns and Elections: The "paid" media". She is known for her savvy use of social media, Ocasio-Cortez has redefined political communication, leveraging platforms like Twitter and Instagram to engage with millions of followers and shape public discourse.
Her rise to prominence was swift, fueled by a grassroots campaign and a powerful social media presence. With over 15 million followers across Twitter, Instagram, and other platforms, Ocasio-Cortez has harnessed the power of social media to amplify her message and connect with a diverse audience. Through candid Instagram stories, live Q&A sessions, and Twitter threads, she offers a behind-the-scenes look at life in Congress and provides a platform for issues often overlooked by traditional media.
I think that this is really effective, especially for a younger audience. She appeals to more of the younger eye while also looking to grasp older people. I think her emotional aspects help her as well. Tapping into the same community that built her up.
